Beverlye Hyman Fead

Beverlye Hyman Fead

Show Description:
Nana, What's Cancer?

How do you explain a disease as potentially scary as cancer to a young child? Children are naturally curious and love to ask questions, but sometimes, when the subject is as complicated as cancer, it can be tricky for adults to provide answers that are both simple and sufficiently informative.
In 2002, author and stage IV cancer survivor Beveryle Hyman Fead was given two months to live. Seven years later, she's teamed up with her 11-year-old granddaughter, Tessa Mae Hamermesh, to pen 'Nana, What's Cancer?' This loving conversation between grandmother and granddaughter forms a book that tackles the tough quetions about cancer, in a kid-friendly but honest way.

Guest Bio:

Beverlye Hyman Fead's winning battle with cancer was the subject of her memoir, I Can Do This: Living with Cancer, Tracing a Year of Hope.
An experimental treatment allows her to live well and actively with stage IV cancer, writing, painting, and spending time with her husband and five grandchildren. She is a Legislative Ambassador and Hero of Hope for the American Cancer Society, and has been honored by the Israel Cancer Research Foundation of California and presented with the Courage Award from the Sarcoma Foundation of America. This October, she'll be honored at the Jennifer Diamond Foundation Gala for her work with cancer. Beverlye has made it her life's work to share her story, and offer hope and encouragement to all those on the cancer journey.

Tessa Mae Hamermesh conceived the idea for this book, and began writing 'Nana, What's Cancer?' with her Nana Beverlye, when she was just 8 years old. Now 11, she is dedicated to helping other kids understand the realities and effects of cancer, and to inspiring people to help defeat cancer once and for all.

Special Interview with Two Spot Gobi

Today I am welcoming an incredible band from the UK, Two Spot Gobi to the air. In this rare radio interview we will have the chance to find out how this up and coming group has become so popular in such a short time. Two Spot Gobi's unique and alternative blend of organic pop was born in 2005 in Brighton.  Their unique line up featuring cello and trumpet alongside drums, bass, guitar and singer James' acrobatic vocals makes a refreshingly new sound with a laid back coastal groove.  This is intelligent urban sass for the chilled out surf generation with an infectious live show. Two Spot Gobi have toured relentles...
